TRADITIONAL WHITE BREAD
This bread has a crispy crust with a tender middle. It makes great sandwiches even the 2nd day. Great Recipe!
INGREDIENTS:
- 2 pkg. of yeast
- 1 1/2 tbsp sugar
- 2 c. warm water
- 1 c. milk
- 2 tbsp butter, melted
- 1 tbsp. salt
- 1/2 c. wheat germ
- 5 1/2-6 1/2 c. flour plus more for dusting if needed
Place warm water (I almost want to say very warm), sugar and yeast in your mixing bowl. Let sit until yeast is foamy. Mix in milk, salt and melted butter. With a dough hook attachment on low mix in 4 cups of flour until incorporated. Add flour 1/2 c. at a time to dough until it pulls away from side of bowl and starts to form a ball. Pour out dough to a lightly floured surface and knead until nice and elastic, apprx. 5-8 minutes, adding a little more flour if necessary for easy handling.
Put into a large oiled bowl turning dough over to coat both sides and cover with a clean slightly damp kitchen towel. Let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 1 hour.
Divide dough in half and form into a loaf and place in 2 greased 5x9 loaf pans. Cover and let rise again until almost doubled, about 40 minutes.
Bake at 400* for 20-30 minutes. It will sound hollow when thumped and be golden brown.
